Quick Facts: Tobias is a tennis, golf, chess and popcorn enthusiast!
Tobias Herrera IV is the driving force behind Catalyst Volleyball’s vision of excellence, teamness, and attitude. With a lifelong background in athletics, Tobias understands firsthand how sports can shape character, open doors, and create lasting impact.
A standout baseball player, Tobias earned the opportunity to play Division I baseball at the University of San Diego, where he also met his wife, Tracey, in a psychology class. Their shared love for sports, teaching, and youth development grew into both a family and the foundation of Catalyst Volleyball.
Tobias’s life took a transformative turn in high school when he was adopted by Jane and Tod Mattox. Jane, his freshman English teacher, and Tod, a longtime volleyball coach, gave him a home, stability, and the support to pursue athletics at the highest level. Tod’s influence sparked Tobias’s passion for coaching volleyball, while Jane’s encouragement modeled the lasting impact of teachers and mentors. Their guidance instilled in him a lifelong belief in the power of mentorship and the responsibility to invest in the next generation.
Off the field, Tobias’s heart for youth development is just as strong. Earning his degree in Early Childhood Development, he has dedicated himself to helping young people grow in confidence, discipline, and teamwork. Together with Tracey Catalyst Volleyball is run with the belief that every athlete deserves the chance to thrive both on and off the court.
As a father to Tobias V, a collegiate soccer player, and Madison, a fearless multi-sport athlete, Tobias brings both professional experience and personal perspective to Catalyst. His leadership reflects a deep conviction: when athletes are surrounded by strong coaches, supportive parents, and a positive culture, they can reach their full potential in sports and in life.
